Job Overview

The Dental Assistant Team Lead with Expanded Function is responsible for supporting dental operations, supervising staff, and ensuring high-quality patient care. Key duties include assisting with dental procedures, managing supplies, maintaining documentation, and providing excellent customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform duties of a dental assistant as needed.
  • Build a positive work environment and lead clinical staff.
  • Direct patient flow and assign daily tasks to dental assistants.
  • Order supplies under supervision of the Dental Director or Clinic Administrator.
  • Ensure quality assurance through documentation reviews and compliance with regulations (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
  • Ensure patient comfort and understanding of treatments.
  • Take and develop diagnostic radiographs, assessing their quality.
  • Maintain and sterilize dental equipment and operatory instruments.
  • Keep operatories stocked with materials and supplies.
  • Properly mix and use dental materials.
  • Pour impressions, trim models, and perform quality control checks on dental equipment.
  • Maintain a tidy work area and adhere to safety policies.
  • Provide coaching to staff, delegate workloads, and promote team motivation.
  • Assist with patient intake, flow, and satisfaction improvements, providing feedback to management.
  • Monitor customer service quality and follow PCC protocols.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring processes.
  • Foster teamwork between clinical and clerical staff.
  • Troubleshoot clinical support issues as needed.
  • Handle front desk duties such as scheduling, check-in, answering calls, and billing when assigned.
Experience and Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of dental assisting and team lead experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of EMR experience preferred.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Certification in Coronal Polishing and Pit & Fissure Sealants.
  • Dental Assistant Diploma.
  • Current CPR certification.
Physical Demands
  • Remain stationary or move around the clinic as needed.
  • Operate computers, printers, and phones regularly.
  • Lift and move objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Perform clinical procedures requiring physical exertion.
Language Skills
  • Proficient in reading and writing in English.
