Dental Assistant Supervisor - School-based 1.0 FTE
The Dental Assistant Supervisor role encompasses both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The Dental Assistant Supervisor manages the dental assistant team including hiring, performance management, orientation and training and completion of annual individual learning conversations. They are responsible for coordinating the efforts of the dental assistants to ensure efficient and safe patient flow in and out of operations. They also work in partnership with other site leads to ensure clinical equipment and maintenance are occurring as required. Clinically, the Dental Assistant Supervisor also provides chair side support to the Dentist for scheduled procedures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage dental assistant (DA) staff including completion of all required training, annual individual learning conversations, recruitment, hiring, retention, development and discipline.
- Resolve issues identified by the team and escalate to the site lead team as needed.
- Provide supervision of or training for floats, students and volunteers who are assigned at NeighborCare Health.
- Participate in organizational planning and work with site lead team to plan for long term patient and staff needs, resources and process improvements.
- Establish, maintain, and monitor effective procedures for clinic operations (infection control, patient safety, prepping the patient for pre and post provider visit, and clinical team support).
- Ensure appropriate daily staffing of DAs and coordinate changes in staff schedules.
- Create a weekly staffing schedule based on clinic needs.
- Order, monitor and maintain dental supplies and equipment.
- Ensure maintenance, repair, and calibration of dental equipment, in accordance with NCH standards, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate clinic activities to ensure efficient patient access to services and quality care, including facilitating trainings and leading meetings.
- Develop orientation and training plans for newly hired staff.
- Participate as members of the clinic lead team; maintain positive working relationships with all team members.
- Assist and coordinate in the resolution of patient and staff issues to drive to a positive outcome.
- Work with other leads to maintain efficient patient and process flow between front office and the back office.
- Model and mentor staff in appropriate problem solving and positive communications.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in patient care areas.

- Set up portable dental equipment for patient care each day.
- Provide chair side assistance by preparing operatory, including cleaning, disinfection, setting up instruments, materials, and appropriate anesthetic for scheduled procedures; specifically pediatrics, restorative, extractions, prevention, and education.
- Place sealants, perform fluoride treatments, coronal polish, and oral hygiene instruction.
- Take digital x-rays.
- Mix materials, place rubber dams, matrices, and wedges.
- Properly pass instruments while maintaining proper aseptic techniques and appropriate safety standards.
- Anticipate and appropriately respond to patients needs under dentist's supervision.
- Communicate dental procedures and postoperative instructions to patients.
- Practice universal precautions, appropriate infection control, and sterilization processes, as defined by Neighborcare Health’s policies and procedures.
- Enter chart notes and patient information into the Electronic Health and Dental record.
- Transport equipment to and from SBHC locations in personal vehicle.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance as assigned.
- Management of electronic dental referrals process.
- Review patient charts prior to patient treatment.
- Maintain and stock necessary supplies in operatory.
- Assist with general supply inventory and stocking.
- Attend and engage in daily team huddle.
- Communicate with dental provider about daily schedule to optimize patient experience.
- Other duties may be assigned by supervisor as needed.

EDUCATION
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Completion of accredited dental assistant program.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS
Required:
- BLS Certification.
- Reliable transportation with personal vehicle.
Preferred:
- Previous experience as a supervisor.
Years of Relevant Experience Required
Minimum of 1 year of dental assisting experience.

3 years of dental assisting experience.

Compensation
The wage range for this position is minimum $24.00 up to $32.53 maximum.
Compensation will be determined based on years of relevant experience.
