Job Summary:
Provide direct support to dentists, hygienists, denturists, and other provider personnel in the delivery of dental care and service within a Kaiser Permanente dental office.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform duties permitted to a dental assistant as per training and under supervision of a licensed provider, including applying topical anesthetic, removing sutures, retracting tissues, assisting with rubber dams, removing debris, inspecting the oral cavity, drying root canals, placing temporary fillings, taking impressions, polishing teeth, training patients in oral hygiene, and handling dental radiographs.
- Support orthodontic procedures by selecting and sizing bands, removing appliances, checking for loose brackets, placing/removing wires and elastics, taking intra-oral measurements, removing bonding material, and assisting with radiographs and record organization.
- Assist in patient care by organizing patient records, greeting and informing patients, reviewing health questionnaires, promoting patient comfort, and answering questions about care and service.
- Anticipate provider needs, manage dental instruments and supplies, maintain a clean operating environment, record patient information accurately, and handle electronic patient records and scheduling systems.
- Respond to medical emergencies, process radiographs, monitor blood pressure, sterilize instruments, and ensure infection control and equipment maintenance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including assisting with restorative procedures, taking impressions, fabricating temporary crowns, monitoring nitrous oxide administration, and other functions authorized by the Board of Dentistry.
