Job summary

SWLA Center for Health Services in Lafayette, LA seeks a Dental Assistant to support dentists and hygienists in primary dental care. Responsibilities include sterilization, operatory prep, radiographs, infection control, instrument maintenance and inventory management.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, completed dental assisting course, CPR certification, and CDA preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish is an asset; teamwork and compassionate patient care are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of accredited dental assisting course preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• English communication required; Spanish preferred.
• Certified Dental Assistant preferred.
• Current CPR (BLA) required.
• Knowledge of dental assisting techniques for general dentistry.
• Knowledge of modern dental materials and their handling.
• Able to work empathetically with diverse patient backgrounds and collaborate with health care professionals.
• Ability to use telephones, computer terminals and copiers.

Responsibilities

• Assist Dentist and Dental Hygienist in provision of primary care.
• Four-handed dentistry and chair-side assistance.
• Prepare operatory and greet/escort patients.
• Expose and develop radiographs; use radiograph software.
• Follow infection control and safety protocols.
• Maintain dental equipment and charting software.
• Handle telephone calls related to clinic operations.
• Support clinical and administrative functions and teamwork.
• Ensure sterility and proper disposal of contaminated materials.
• Use PPE and maintain sterile environment.
• Attend work on time and prepare schedules.
• Maintain supply ordering and inventory records.
• Review daily schedule and set up trays/instruments.
• Collaborate with all disciplines and accept feedback.
• Pursue further dental knowledge.
