Mission of Role

The Orthodontic assistant reports to the Practice Administrator and the Orthodontist. The Mission of the ortho assistant is to create a relationship with patients, assisting the orthodontist to increase production, assist the orthodontist in the bonding/debonding of braces, making adjustments, seating appliances, and ensure that the patients treatment remains on schedule by scheduling back each patient in treatment for their next visit. The dental assistant must be knowledgeable about dentistry and orthodontics. The dental assistant must be able to work with the orthodontist in a wider variety of orthodontic procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Seating patient and provide patient comfort
  2. Updating patient health histories if needed and update the orthodontist of any changes
  3. Be completely prepared for procedure prior to the orthodontist coming in treatment room
  4. Assisting chair side with dentist with a wide variety of orthodontic procedures
  5. Taking x-rays
  6. Checking to make sure that all lab cases are here and logging them in Easy RX
  7. Clinical notes completed each day in patients WAVE chart
  8. Effective knowledge and use of the iTero, scanning patients in a timely manner (under 7 minutes to scan)
  9. Taking impressions, pouring up impressions and lab work
  10. Ensure that the lab area is clean, organized and adheres to OSHA compliance standards
  11. Making retainers and trimming appropriately
  12. Some independent work with patients
  13. Ordering list is updated for supplies needed and putting supplies away as well as stocking rooms
  14. Patient education about procedures
  15. Cleaning and setting up rooms
  16. Sterilizing instruments and overall upkeep/organization of sterilization area
  17. Equipment maintenance and upkeep
  18. Other responsibilities not listed such as open communication, Level 10 individual Rocks
