Job Summary:
Provide direct support to dentists, hygienists, denturists, and other provider personnel in delivering dental care and services within a Kaiser Permanente dental office.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform duties permitted to a dental assistant, under the supervision of a licensed provider, as outlined by the State Dental Practice Act. Responsibilities include applying topical anesthetic, removing sutures, retracting tissue, assisting with rubber dam placement, removing debris, conducting extra-oral procedures, inspecting the oral cavity, drying root canals, placing temporary fillings, taking impressions, polishing teeth, training patients in oral hygiene, and taking dental radiographs.
- Support orthodontic procedures by selecting and sizing bands, removing appliances, checking for loose components, placing and removing arch wires, taking intra-oral measurements, removing bonding materials, and organizing patient records. Greet patients, explain procedures, review health questionnaires, and promote patient comfort and understanding.
- Assist in the delivery of patient care by anticipating provider needs, preparing instruments and supplies, maintaining a clean operating environment, recording and verifying patient information, and managing radiographs and vital signs. Ensure proper infection control and equipment maintenance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including placing matrix retainers, polishing restorations, taking impressions, assisting with nitrous oxide administration, and other tasks authorized by the Board of Dentistry and applicable regulations.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a dental assistant or a graduate from an ADA-accredited dental assisting program.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Dental Radiation Proficiency Certificate (Oregon).
