Job Summary

Provide direct support to dentists, hygienists, denturists, and other provider personnel in the delivery of dental care and service within a Kaiser Permanente dental office.

Responsibilities

1. Perform duties permitted a dental assistant under supervision, including applying anesthetics, sutures removal, tissue retraction, assisting with rubber dams, debris removal, oral cavity inspection, taking impressions, polishing teeth, patient hygiene training, radiograph placement, and support in emergency situations.
2. Support orthodontic procedures: selecting bands, removing appliances, checking brackets, placing wires, taking measurements, removing bonding material, and organizing patient records.
3. Assist in patient interactions: greeting, informing, reviewing health questionnaires, promoting comfort, and answering questions.
4. Anticipate provider needs, prepare instruments and supplies, maintain a clean environment, record patient information accurately, and ensure equipment functionality.
5. Perform additional duties as assigned, adhering to legal and professional standards, including monitoring nitrous oxide and fabricating temporary crowns.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of experience as a dental assistant or graduate from an ADA-accredited program.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Required licenses and certifications: Dental Radiation Proficiency Certificate (Oregon), Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate (Oregon, within 6 months), Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate (Oregon, within 3 months), and BLS certification (within 3 months).

Additional Requirements

• Competence in four-handed dentistry, knowledge of dental materials, ability to follow instructions, and professional interpersonal skills.
• Good organizational skills, excellent attendance, and passing a clinical skills test.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of sterilization and infection control equipment.
