Job summary

One Brooklyn Health is looking for a Chairside Assistant to support dentists and hygienists in providing top-notch dental care. Responsibilities include preparing treatment areas, assisting with procedures, cleaning instruments, and maintaining records.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, be a graduate from an approved Dental Assistant program, and preferably possess dental assistant experience with inventory control. This position requires standing for prolonged periods and handling up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Dental Assistant and in inventory control preferred.
• Certificate from a Dental Assistant’s program required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for patient visits and maintain accurate records.
• Clean and sterilize instruments and treatment areas.
• Assist in developing radiographs and maintaining dental equipment.

Job description

Overview

Chairside assistant of Dentist or Hygienist. Sets up operative areas and disinfects area, removes sharps from instruments, washes them and returns them to sterilizing center. Arranges for records to accompany patients to treatment area.

Responsibilities

• Set up for the patient to include logging in patient name, pull charts and make notes under direction of attending doctor.
• Seat patient and drape patient, fix headrest, prepare tray and instruments. Check chart, ensure information is current and complete.
• Dismiss patient to include providing appointment card for next visit, collect charts for billing, and ensure completeness of chart. Please X-Rays back into mounting sleeve, write in the BAs and WCs for the day.
• Clean instruments by washing all instruments after freeing them of debris and blood. Replace washed instruments into set-up tray or container and returns them for sterilization.
• Maintain equipment (at least once each week) removing debris and clean screen in suction hoses. Replace screws as required. Lavages suction hoses by running small amounts of bleach through them. Cleans and keeps dental laboratory orderly on an assigned rotational basis.
• Maintain inventory, keep area neat and organized.
• Sterilize area, bag and autoclave instruments.
• Develop radiographs, mounts and dates, identifies them, and places them in patient charts.
• Cleans and helps maintain darkroom and developing machine on an assigned basis.
• Performs other tasks as required.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an approved/accredited Dental Assistant program.

Experience:

• Dental Assistant and inventory control experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Is familiar with the dental care needs and the procedures necessary for treating all pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Basic ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Licenses, Certifications:

• Certificate from a Dental Assistant’s program.
• CRCST Certification preferred, NEW HIRES MUST GAIN CERTIFICATION WITHIN 12 MONTHS.

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
• Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
