Job summary

Rolling Hills Clinic is seeking a Dental Assistant in Training to join our dental team in Red Bluff, CA. You will learn chairside assisting, radiography, infection control, sterilization, and patient education under supervision of the Dental Director and dentists.

Travel between Rolling Hills Clinic locations may be required as needed. This role requires a high school diploma, an infection control certificate, and completion of a radiation safety course within the first year of training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 8-hour infection control course approved by the Dental Board of California.
• Radiation safety course certified within 1 year of starting training.

Responsibilities

• Perform four-handed dental assisting during various procedures including endodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, prosthodontics and restorative care.
• Assist with radiographic operations: exposure, processing, and uploading radiographs.
• Maintain instruments, sterilization, tray setup and restock supplies; handle lab procedures.
• Educate patients in oral hygiene under dentist supervision.
• Maintain inventory and document exam findings in patient records.
• Keep operatories and laboratories clean, orderly and stocked.
• Plan work to promote clinic efficiency and understand scheduling procedures.
• Collaborate with staff on community preventive dental activities and adhere to safety protocols.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Dental Clinic Site Manager, the Dental Assistant in Training will function as a circulating assistant during chairside dental procedures. On-the-job training will be provided by current RDA(s)/RDAEFII(s) and precepted by the Dental Director/Dentists. The Dental Assistant in Training will learn dentistry procedures, clinic infection control, instrument sterilization, tray setup, and material handling. Travel between Rolling Hills Clinic locations may be required as needed.

• Perform four-handed dental assisting duties for various procedures, including endodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, prosthodontics, and restorative care.


• Assist with radiographic operations: expose, process, and upload diagnostic radiographs.


• Demonstrate familiarity with dental terminology, materials, medications, and operative instruments.


• Support patient flow by cleaning and sterilizing instruments, setting up trays, restocking supplies, performing equipment maintenance and testing, pouring models, and handling other lab procedures.


• Instruct patients in oral hygiene and preventive dental education under dentist supervision.


• Maintain inventory of supplies; reorder as needed to sustain par levels.


• Document exam findings in patient records.


• Ensure operatories and laboratories are clean, orderly, and well stocked.


• Plan work effectively to promote dental clinic efficiency.


• Understand patient scheduling procedures.


• Collaborate with dental staff to develop and implement community preventive dental activities.


• Adhere to all safety protocols, including ergonomic standards and corrective action for health and safety issues.


• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.


• Eight (8) hours infection control course certificate approval by the Dental Board of California.


• Completion of an approved radiation safety course within one (1) year of starting the training program.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance through Federal, State, and Child Abuse Index.

Working Environment & Physical Demands

Working Environment: Work is performed in a health clinic setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Will work with blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines. Other Requirements of Employment

Pre-employment Drug Testing and a Department of Justice Fingerprinting clearance through Federal, State and Child Abuse Index is a contingency for an offer of employment. Criminal clearances are obtained to protect the welfare and safety of clients receiving services at Rolling Hills Clinic.

Provide vaccination records to show proof of immunity for TB, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TDAP & Hep B. If the records are more than 10 years old, titers are required to confirm immunity.
