Job description

Join to apply for the DENTAL ASSISTANT III role at University of Alabama at Birmingham

Responsible for providing support in various dental procedures, assisting with surgical procedures, sedation, and anesthesia.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Maintains surgery rooms and equipment, takes and processes radiographs of patients, and dispenses supplies.
  2. Assists residents and faculty with anesthesia, including conscious sedation, IV sedation, nitrous oxide, and general anesthesia.
  3. Obtains patient consent.
  4. Attaches and detaches monitoring devices to assess blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation; recognizes abnormal readings and reports problems to the resident/faculty surgeon.
  5. Charts patient vital signs throughout procedures and communicates pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients.
  6. Performs clerical and administrative duties to support the department, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and handling payments.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Must be able to make critical decisions regarding patient care and demonstrate knowledge of emergency scenarios. Must be able to manage a sedated patient's airway during surgery.

Hourly Pay Range: $16.00 - $26.00

Requirements: Graduate from an accredited Dental Assistant Program and two (2) years of related experience. Work experience may substitute for education.
