GENERAL FUNCTION
Provide chair side assistance to dental practitioners using four-handed practices. Provide direct patient care and administrative support to the dental department as necessary.
Essential Functions
- Provide accurate and efficient chair side assistance to dental providers and hygienists using established four-handed practices.
- Demonstrate knowledge of dental restorative, endodontic, and oral surgery practices and procedures, including application techniques for crowns and bridges.
- Perform child and adult prophys, preventative procedures, OHI, fluorides, sealant application, and rubber dam placement.
- Identify, use, and arrange all dental instruments; prepare procedure tray setups in a timely manner.
- Assist in completing patient dental records by processing digital radiographs/x-rays and following protocols for patient exposure.
- Wear personal protective equipment and follow safety guidelines.
- Maintain and clean instruments, practicing proper infection control and sterilization protocols.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and report failures promptly.
- Assist patients with care and understanding during dental procedures.
- Provide age-appropriate behavior management for patients aged 0-18 years.
- Communicate home care instructions effectively to patients and parents.
- Perform triage duties for emergency care situations.
- Assist with orthodontic and pediatric work as needed.
Requirements
DENTAL ASSISTANT II
- Current BLS certification and experience with electronic health record systems
- Three years of general dental assistant experience
- One year experience in pediatric or orthodontic assisting
- Must obtain DANB certification within one year of hire
DENTAL ASSISTANT III
- Current BLS certification and experience with electronic health record systems
- Five years of dental assistant experience
- Two years of orthodontic, pediatric assisting, or expanded functions
- Current DANB certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire
