Job description

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Dental Assistant II within the Rutgers Health University Dental Associates Department at the School of Dental Medicine (RSDM).

The Dental Assistant II provides support to faculty at RHUDA-New Brunswick which includes performing work related to the care, sterilization, packing, and disbursement of equipment and supplies. The Dental Assistant II maintains all aspects of sterilization procedures related to dental instruments and supplies associated with patient care within the various clinical operations. The Dental Assistant II provides chairside dental assisting to providers in all disciplines and takes various dental x-rays as assigned by providers.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Reviews providers schedule and sets up treatment rooms for procedures being performed.
  • Assists various faculty chairside in the delivery of outstanding quality care.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, instruments and equipment according to department policy. Restocks equipment and supplies in the examination rooms and supply area. Reports depleted items following established procedure.
  • Checks returned instruments and prepares them for sterilization.
  • Examines equipment to detect leaks, worn or loose parts, or other indications of disrepair, verifying that equipment functions properly. Reports findings of defective equipment and maintenance needs as per department protocol.

Annual Minimum Salary: 43742.40

Annual Mid Range Salary: 44782.40

Annual Maximum Salary: 46134.40

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Valid Radiologic Technology license issued by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Valid American Heart Association CPR certification.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, decontamination, sterilization, assembly, packing and monitoring of instrumentation required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assigned work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred, three (3) years of experience in a dental setting with a combination of dental assisting and sterile processing.
Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking, bending and reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive).
  • Must have the ability to lift/push/pull greater than 50 pounds.
  • Noisy, busy clinical, and sterilization area, temperature fluctuations (hot and cold).
