Job summary

Chenega Government Mission Solutions, LLC is seeking a Dental Assistant II to support Lawton Indian Hospital in Lawton, OK. This full-time role runs Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–4:00 pm, with potential shift adjustments by the Chief Dental Officer to keep within an 8-hour workday and 40-hour workweek.

Some staff may be assigned to Anadarko Indian Health Center as needed during regular hours. The position involves chairside assistance in general dentistry, radiographs, sterilization, patient education,

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Dental Assistance direct practice.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to work onsite in Lawton, OK.
  • Knowledge of all instruments, materials, and procedures normally used in all phases of restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic and periodontal treatment.
  • Knowledge of dental anatomy and ability to properly expose and mount diagnostic radiographs.
  • Ability to explain to patient's post-operative instructions, disease prevention techniques, and home care instructions.
  • Knowledge of the steps and techniques required for the placement of sealants on teeth.
  • Knowledge of tooth isolation techniques required to maintain a dry field of placement of restorations and sealants.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and record vital signs and screening data in electronic dental and health records.
  • Triage emergency dental patients.
  • Take intraoral and extraoral (panoramic) digital radiographs; obtain diagnostic-quality images with additional exposures as needed.
  • Chairside assistant, primarily in general dentistry; assist in complex procedures such as oral surgery, prosthodontics, operative, endodontics, periodontics and pedodontics.
  • Prepare dental instruments and materials; evacuate blood and secretions; transfer instruments to provider.
  • Clean and transport soiled instruments; pre-sterilization cleaning and packaging; sterilization; maintain operatory cleanliness.
  • Provide routine rubber cup prophylaxis and apply topical fluoride as assigned.
  • Relay post-operative instructions and home care guidance to patients.
  • Place pit and fissure sealants as prescribed by dentist.
  • Direct patients or visitors; relay messages to staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

This is a full-time, Monday-Friday; 7:00 am-4:00 pm position. The Chief Dental Officer may alter the shift hours as the workload assignment required not exceeding eight hours per day or 40 hours per week. No Federal holidays are required. Dental Assistants supporting the Lawton Indian Hospital may also be assigned to work at the Anadarko Indian Health Center as needed based on staff shortages using IHS vehicle during regular work hours.

  • Chair side assistant, primarily assisting in general dentistry. Assist as needed in more complex specialized dental procedures such as oral surgery, prosthetics, operative, endodontics, periodontics and pedodontics.
  • Prepare dental instruments and materials prior to procedures. Evacuate blood and secretions from oral cavity during procedures. Transfer instruments to provider during dental procedures.
  • Clean and transport soiled instruments at the end of the procedure. Perform proper pre-sterilization cleaning, packaging of instruments and sterilization. Complete routine equipment and operatory maintenance. Clean operatory and work surfaces between patients.
  • Provides routine rubber cup and prophylaxis and applies topical fluoride treatment as assigned by the dentist.
  • Relays to patient's post-operative instructions, disease prevention techniques, and home care instructions.
  • Places pit and fissure sealants as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Direct patients or visitors. Refer callers to appropriate staff members. Write down pertinent patient or message information to give accurate messages to staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Estimated Salary/Wage
