Job Description:

UF, College of Dentistry is recruiting for a Dental Assistant. Clinical Care Groups are critical to the UFCD TEAM Program. This position is “Patient Centered & Student Friendly”, with an over-all goal to incorporate the UFCD mission to deliver quality student dentist education and patient care.

Each Dental Assistant is assigned to a Clinical Care Group comprised of two TEAMS. This position requires general dentistry chairside assisting skills, computer application skills (Outlook, axiUm, Excel, Word, and Windows 7), and positive “people” skills.

Student Support:Assist clinic staff with maintaining optimal working order of clinic equipment. Interact effectively with Dental Maintenance to insure clinic is ready for use by student dentists daily. Support with the daily surveillance of clinics to ensure compliance with infection prevention standards and correct deficiencies as they occur (e.g., clean chairs, counters, sinks, etc.). Help maintain daily attendance records of team students and perform as information resource at the emergency rally point regarding students, assisting students, and volunteers. Assist with student orientation into the clinical curriculum; asses skills for infection prevention and general clinic safety. Provide four-hand dentistry support to students during clinic sessions.

Patient Care Aspect: Provide clinical general dentistry chairside four-hand & six-hand assisting for student dentists. Maintain optimal clinic infection control standards.

Clinic Inventory:Assist with management of inventory of clinical supplies for the assigned Clinical Care Group (22 chair Clinic), maintain adequate stock of daily clinic supplies. Actively participate in daily huddles, and meetings.

Conduct Surveys:Distribute survey forms, either UFCD or ADA related to patients, students, and/or faculty.

General:Proctor Clinical Examinations (Mock Board Examinations) two times per year. Participate in Quality Assurance process of UFCD.

Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

Dental Assistant I - $16.00-$17.00 per hour

Dental Assistant II - $17.00 - $18.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

Dental Assistant I -
High school diploma and one year of appropriate experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Dental Assistant II -
High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) Certification demonstrating the successful completion of training as specified in Chapter 64B5-16, Florida Administrative Code.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Dental Assistant (Dental Assisting National Board CDA), Dental Radiology certificate/permit, completion of formal training with a dental assisting program through a community college or vocational technology center.
  • Experience handling general office equipment to include, facsimile machine, computer, copier, calculator.
  • Information technology skills operating a computer, and experience with Windows, and Microsoft Office (Word, Access and Excel).
  • Two years of Multi-practitioner Dental Practice experience.
