Purpose

A dental assistant plays a crucial role in supporting both the dentist and patients. Responsibilities include assisting with patient preparation, providing comfort, explaining procedures, supporting during dental procedures, managing clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring sterilization, and educating patients on oral hygiene and post-treatment care.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments, ensure quality control, and maintain equipment.
  • Assist during dental procedures, set up trays, and maintain aseptic techniques.
  • Prepare patients, record histories, and instruct on oral hygiene and post-care.
  • Expose and develop dental x-rays, and perform routine equipment maintenance.
  • Manage inventory and supplies.
  • Assist in emergencies, apply fluoride, and support clinical tasks.
  • Communicate treatment plans and financial information to patients.
  • Attend training and meetings as required.
  • Maintain attendance, adhere to policies, and perform other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Respect for patient confidentiality.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills.
Education, License, And Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Previous dental experience is not necessary.
Language Skills
  • Fluent in English.
  • Effective speaking skills.
  • Ability to interpret documents and reports.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/Other) preferred.
