Job summary

Hamilton Health Center in Harrisburg, PA is seeking a Dental Assistant I to support dentists and the dental team in a community-based setting. You will help with chairside procedures, X-rays, infection control, patient prep, and accurate clinical documentation to ensure high-quality care.

The role requires graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant program, DANB radiographs certification (or within 4 months), CPR (or within 4 months), and ideally one year of chairside experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program.
• DANB radiographs certification required (or must obtain within 4 months of hire).
• CPR certification required (or must obtain within 4 months).
• One year of chairside dental assisting experience preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and teamwork abilities.
• Must pass background checks, including child abuse clearance.

Responsibilities

• Chairside assistance: prepare instruments, pass materials, take digital X-rays, ensure patient comfort.
• Infection control: maintain sterilization and disinfection per policy.
• Patient support: prepare patients, collect histories, provide pre/post-operative instructions.
• Clinical documentation: maintain electronic dental records, radiographs, referrals.
• Laboratory & impressions: take preliminary impressions, pour models, prep lab cases.
• Supply management: order restock dental supplies and keep operatories clean and ready.
• Administrative & team support: assist with scheduling, meetings, training, cross-location coverage.
• Expanded Function: perform duties per PA EFDA scope of practice.

The Dental Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered dental care for patients of all ages in a community-based setting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Chairside Assistance: Support dental providers during procedures by preparing instruments, passing materials, taking digital X-rays, and ensuring patient comfort.

Infection Control: Maintain strict adherence to sterilization and disinfection protocols, following Hamilton’s Infection Control Policy to ensure a safe clinical environment.

Patient Support: Prepare patients for treatment, collect health histories, and provide pre- and post-operative instructions to promote understanding and compliance.

Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely electronic dental records, including treatment notes, radiographs, consent forms, and referrals.

Laboratory & Impressions: Take preliminary impressions, pour models, and prepare lab cases with proper documentation.

Supply Management: Order and restock dental supplies, ensuring operatories remain clean, organized, and fully equipped.

Administrative & Team Support: Assist with scheduling coordination, departmental meetings, staff training, and cross-location coverage as needed.

Expanded Function (if applicable): EFDAs perform duties consistent with Pennsylvania State Law relating to the EFDA scope of practice.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program.

Certification: DANB certification for radiographs required (or must obtain within 4 months of hire); CPR certification required (or must obtain within 4 months).

Experience: One year of chairside dental assisting experience preferred; foundational knowledge expected.

Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication, organization, and teamwork abilities, with a professional and patient-focused demeanor.

Compliance: Must pass background checks, including child abuse clearance, and be able to work in a community-based and/or school-based clinical environment.
