Job summary

The University of Iowa is seeking a Dental Assistant to support our dental clinic with four-handed dentistry, infection control, and patient support. You will prepare operatories, take x-rays, and document vitals and treatment notes in axiUm.

Qualifications

• CODA-accredited dental assisting program or one year full-time equivalency in chairside assistant experience using the four-handed dentistry method.
• Current registration to practice as a dental assistant by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners (QDA).
• Current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography (QDA).
• Experience with a general dentist is desirable.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience working with electronic health records (axiUm).

Responsibilities

• Prepare, clean, and disinfect operatories and instruments following infection control protocols.
• Set up trays and materials for dental procedures and assist during treatment.
• Take x-rays, impressions, and perform basic lab work including models, trays, and temporary restorations.
• Manage supplies and maintain stocked, organized clinical areas.
• Prepare and support patients, record vitals and treatment notes.
• Enter data and update records in the electronic health system (axiUm).
• Maintain professionalism, communication, and patient confidentiality.
