Job summary

Cornell Scott–Hill Health Center is seeking a friendly, detail‑oriented Dental Assistant to support the dentist and hygienist at the chair. You will escort patients, ensure instruments are sterilized, and help with postoperative care instructions in a community health setting.

The role requires an accredited Dental Assisting Certificate and a Radiology certificate, with a focus on compassionate care and accurate record keeping. Training includes chart management and patient education.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program is required.
  • Certificate in Dental Radiology is required.
  • Familiarity with GE Centricity/VisDental systems is desirable.
  • Strong written, verbal and computer skills are necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a patient‑centered approach.

Responsibilities

  • Provides dental care for CS-HHC patients at the chair.
  • Assists Dentist and Hygienist during procedures.
  • Maintains instrument sterilization, storage and supplies.
  • escorts patients to/from reception and reassures anxious patients.
  • Teaches oral hygiene and post‑treatment care instructions.
  • Takes impressions for study casts and maintains records.
  • Maintains confidentiality and accuracy of dental charts.
  • Performs other duties as required.

About The Role

Under the direction of the Director of Dental, the Dental Assistant will escort patients to and from reception area, reassure a fearful patient with warmth, honesty, and confidence. The individual is also responsible for maintaining supplies, storage and sterilization of instruments.

The individual is also responsible for maintaining supplies, storage and sterilization of instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides reasonable and prudent dental care for CS-HHC patients. Treats patients and staff respectfully,courteouslyand appropriately
  • Participatesin clinical dental health careassistingthe Dentist and Hygienist at the chair
  • Responsible for the general care of equipment and ensuring instruments are kept sharp and sterilized
  • Provides patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling)
  • Teaches patientsappropriate oralhygiene strategies tomaintainoral health; (e.g., toothbrushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)
  • Takes impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth)
  • Maintains functional system of dental charts/lab slips and assures confidentiality of individual records
  • Performs all other duties asrequired
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GEDrequired. Certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting Programrequired. Certificate in Dental Radiologyalsorequired.
  • PreviousDental Assisting experience preferred. New graduates can apply.Familiarity with GE Centricity/ VisDental system is highly desirable.
  • Excellent technical and interpersonal skills required .
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and ability to communicate warmth and confidence to the patient’s population.
  • Interest in preventive dentistry, social consciousness, sensitivity to needs of community residents and the desire to work with and for disadvantagedpersons.
  • Excellent written, verbal and computer skills are necessary.
