Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Dental Assistant for the Adult Medical Services department within University Correctional Health Care ( UCHC ). The Dental Assistant will assist the Dentist during the examination and treatment of patients. Performs certain inter-oral tasks in response to specific instructions from and under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. Interrelates and works effectively with inmates, other members of the dental staff, medical and nursing staff, correctional staff at all levels, administrative and support staff.


Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Prepares operatory with appropriate instruments and material for the patients scheduled to be seen.
  • Provides chair-side assistance during treatment recognizing the dentist’s need for instruments, material, retraction or suction.
  • Mixes and fabricates restorative materials.
  • Sterilizes instruments and disinfects operatory between patients.
  • Develops and mounts routine radiographs.
  • Assists in exposing intro-oral and extra-oral radiographs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40

Daily Work Shift: Day

Work Arrangement: This position requires a full onsite work arrangement.

Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program
Certifications/Licenses
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant in the State of New Jersey.
  • Valid Dental Radiology Technology License issued by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Must be certified in CPR.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
Special Conditions

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections ( DOC ) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
