DENTAL ASSISTANT

Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS) provides patient-centered, team-based primary care to residents of Western North Carolina. We are committed to caring for our patients with purpose and integrity and supporting our team members. We are seeking a full-time Dental Assistant to join our team.

We are looking for a full-time Dental Assistant to work 4 days a week (10 hours per day), totaling 40 hours weekly. The schedule is from 8 am to 5:30 pm on weekdays, with a 30-minute lunch break and Wednesdays off.

The Dental Assistant will be based at our location:

257 Biltmore Avenue

The ideal candidate will have dental assisting experience with x-ray certification. Fluency in Spanish, Russian, and/or Ukrainian is highly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities
  1. Prepare the operatories for dental treatments.
  2. Assist the dentist with procedures, including taking impressions, suctioning, handing instruments, constructing and cementing temporary crowns, packing gingival retraction cord, etc.
  3. Record dental and medical histories and perform dental charting.
  4. Take and develop dental radiographs of diagnostic quality.
  5. Pour and trim models.
  6. Disinfect and sterilize instruments, equipment, and surfaces between patients.
  7. Maintain patient files in good order.
  8. Handle patient telephone calls and triage as needed.
  9. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instruments.
  10. Manage dental supplies inventory.
  11. Maintain a clean and sterile clinical environment.
  12. Log ordered dental prosthetics.
  13. Participate in quality management activities.
  14. Assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  15. Provide patients with oral care instructions post-treatment.

Hourly rates vary based on experience and certification:

  • On-the-Job Training: $17.70 - $18.20
  • Trained Dental Assistant: $18.20 - $19.50
  • Certified Dental Assistant: $20.00 - $24.00
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum six months of dental assisting experience
  • X-ray certification required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of medical office operations (preferred)
  • Familiarity with FQHCs (preferred)
