The Opportunity:

This recruitment will fill multiple Dental Assistant positions (EFDA not required) in our health centers throughout the Portland Metro area. This is a Limited Duration position.

The Dental Program collaborates with community partners to serve underserved populations in Multnomah County, providing education, prevention, and dental treatment. The Dental Assistant supports Dentists and Dental Hygienists in delivering dental care, with potential work at different locations and teams as directed by the Dental Clinic Program Supervisor.

As a Dental Assistant, you will:

Clinical Functions and Provider Support
  • Provide direct clinical assistance to Dentists and Dental Hygienists.
  • Perform all aspects of 4-handed dentistry, including mixing materials, rubber dam placement, taking study models, impressions, and diagnostic x-rays.
  • Assist in triaging emergency patients and communicate patient needs to providers.
  • Offer oral hygiene instructions and nutritional advice using motivational interviewing techniques.
Resource Management / Infection Control
  • Set up and disinfect operatories following proper procedures, ensuring availability of instruments and supplies.
  • Sterilize instruments according to infection control guidelines.
Customer Service
  • Interact respectfully and courteously with patients.
  • Monitor patient wait times and inform patients of delays.
  • Conduct follow-ups and document interactions.

Qualifications:

We consider a combination of relevant experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills. Specific requirements include:

  • Equivalent to high school diploma.
  • Completion of a Dental Assistant program.
  • Radiologic proficiency certification preferred; ability to obtain within six months of hire via an Oregon Board-approved course.
  • BLS CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • One year of responsible dental assistant experience or graduation from an accredited program.
  • Infection Control Certification from DANB.

This position requires a background check, possibly including fingerprinting, and employment is contingent upon passing this check.
