Job description

Assists the dentist utilizing comprehensive four-handed dentistry techniques. Selects proper instruments and tray set-ups. Accurately records findings of examinations for dentists, completes images using appropriate techniques, and follows infection control standards. Receives and triages patients and notifies the dentist of patient status as needed.

  1. Assists in the dental treatment of patients, including seating the patient, reviewing medical history, and reporting any changes from previous visits and reasons for the current visit to the dentist.
  2. Takes, develops, and mounts intra- and extra-oral radiographs used in diagnosis and treatment. Prepares patients for procedures and assists the dentist by passing instruments, providing necessary equipment, and assisting with suction and retraction.
  3. Makes dental material mixes and monitors the patient's vital signs and comfort level throughout procedures.
  4. Cleans, sterilizes, and assembles instruments and equipment throughout the day.
  5. Requisitions supplies and maintains a well-stocked operatory.
  6. Maintains clinic appearance and monitors the area for safety violations.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $17.65 - $27.36 Hourly

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required. Successful completion of a Dental Radiation Safety Course by an accredited program is required.
  • Experience: None required.
  • Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification to be completed within 90 days of hire. Dental Assistant Certification within two years of hire.
Physical Demands

Requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping/traveling, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull <20 lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, radiation, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
