Job summary

Colorado Department of Corrections seeks a part-time dental assistant to support the dentist in a prison clinic in Delta, CO. You will assist with routine and emergency care, manage scheduling, and ensure infection control and safety compliance.

The role requires chair-side experience with adults, certification in dental assisting and dental x-ray, and the ability to work effectively in a correctional environment. Training and ACA support are provided.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time, professional work experience as a Dental Assistant providing chair-side assistance in General Dentistry or Oral Surgery to adults.
• Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Obtain digital x-rays.
• Set up restorative procedures.
• Educate inmates about preventive dental health care.
• Sterilize instruments and equipment.
• Dispose of medical contaminated waste.
• Interpret and adapt radiation safety and infection control guidelines.
• Monitor and maintain intra-oral x-ray machines.
• Set schedule and perform preventive maintenance on dental equipment.
• Maintain inventory levels of supplies & chemicals.
• Ensure safety & security by maintaining a controlled environment for tools, chemicals & supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness of dental clinic.
• Plan workload and appointment schedules for inmates to maximize efficiency.
• Triage urgency of dental requests and schedule appropriately.
• Monitor progress of prosthetic cases.
• Obtain signatures and track co-pay charges for approval.
• Maintain filing system and stock levels.
• Autoclave spore strip testing per standards.
• Assist with ACA files and audits.
