Qualifications

  • Completion of a dental assistant training program
  • Minimum 2 years chairside dental assistance experience
  • Current CPR certification (may be provided by Advantage Health Center before end of introductory period)

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dentist in providing dental services and outreach in metropolitan Detroit.
  • Prepare patients for dental health services and instruct on post-treatment care and oral hygiene.
  • Set up rooms for restorative, oral surgery, pedo, crown, and endo procedures.
  • Take inventory and order supplies, maintain instruments and medications.
  • Proficient with digital X-rays and four-handed chairside technique.
  • Maintain sterilization/disinfection per OSHA guidelines and keep operatories clean.
  • Cross-train in other dental support roles as needed (reception, oral surgery).
  • Participate in in-service training and staff meetings; pursue continuing education.

Job description

Pay range - $19 to $22 per hour, based on experience

POSITION SUMMARY:

Position works directly with and under the supervision of the Dentist in providing general dental services. To assist the Dentist in providing Clinical dental services and outreach community services in metropolitan Detroit.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

To assist the Dentist in providing dental services to all patients by:

  • Knowledge of dental terminology, dental materials and instruments; efficient in room set-up for restorative, oral surgery, pedo, crown, and endo a plus
  • Preparing patients for dental health services and instructing them in appropriate post dental treatment, diet and oral hygiene.
  • Promptly following all instructions from the dentist dealing with patient comfort.
  • Taking inventory, stocking all supplies, instruments and medications and the ordering of said items.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of digital x-rays.
  • Proficiency with using fourhanded assisting technique.
  • Maintaining dental equipment and operatories in good, clean condition at all times.
  • Maintain the instruments and working areas in strict accordance with sterilization/disinfect ion protocols per OSHA guidelines.
  • Cross-training in other dental support positions as necessary, i.e., reception, oral surgery, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dental Director as it pertains to the Dental Department.
  • Maintain personnel protection per OSHA guidelines as it pertains to personnel safety, i.e., protective clothing, eyewear, gloves.
  • To participate in in-service training, department and general staff meetings and clinics.
  • To have a genuine desire to improve your current skills and to actively pursue continuing educational opportunities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possession of a valid State of Michigan Registered Dental Assistant license (preferred)
  • Possession of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a dental assist training academic program, or
  • Minimum 2 years chair side dental assistance experience (references required)
  • Evidence of current CPR certification (may be provided by Advantage Health Center before end ofintroductory period employee status).
  • Possession of current valid Michigan identification or drivers license.
  • Punctuality, accuracy, efficiency and professionalism.
