Dental Assistant - 32 Hour - Part Time - (250004DK)

Description

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, under the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking a caring, dedicated, and attentive Dental Assistant. Under the supervision of the Chief of Dentistry, the Dental Assistant assists in the delivery of dental care and chairside responsibilities. The incumbent will support the dentist with patient flow and coordination, perform administrative functions, and assist in all phases of examination, treatment, and related work as required.

Note: The hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., totaling 32 hours per week. The days off are Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Coordinate patient care: scheduling, screening, maintaining dental charts, tracking/coordinating lab cases and consents.
  • Maintain dental clinic communication, logs, certifications, and inventory.
  • Coordinate needed repairs with Environmental Services and Facilities Department.
  • Oversee all functions of the Oral Surgery Clinic.
  • Determine/identify patient guardianship when necessary.
  • Assist the dentist when other dental assistants are unavailable or when clinic operations require additional help, such as room setup/breakdown, direct dental assisting, taking dental X-rays, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing assigned activities.
  • Follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Work accurately with names, numbers, codes, and symbols.
  • Communicate effectively orally.
  • Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Dental Assistant License issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or dental office as a preceptorship-trained dental assistant.
  • Completion of a certified dental assistant training program or bedside nursing preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

About Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:

Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully accredited teaching facility providing acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private providers. It serves economically and socially disadvantaged patients with high-quality, cost-effective care, respecting their dignity. Located in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the hospital includes 248 inpatient beds, outpatient clinics, and specialized services, including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients.

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Dental Assistant Certificate issued by the Dental Assistants National Board.

Salary placement depends on experience, education, and internal guidelines. Compensation is governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
