Job summary

LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans invites applications for a Dental Assistant 1 or 2 in the Oral Surgery department. The role supports dental surgeons, residents and students, prepares treatment rooms, records vital signs, and teaches post-operative care.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist oral surgeons, residents, and dental students with chair-side treatment of patients.
• Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
• Provide intra-oral instructions and demonstrations of oral hygiene procedures.
• Greet and seat patients and update patient records.
• Answer phones and schedule appointments.
• Assist with maintaining stock cabinet and ordering supplies when needed.

Job Summary/Basic Functions

Under general supervision of the Dental Program Coordinator. This position will provide assistance to a Oral Surgeon, resident, or dental student during procedures which includes seating and preparing patients for treatment, recording of medical history, measuring pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and ensure patient comfort, assurance and support. Assist in the care of handling of patients during dental treatment which involves setting up, missing, and passing of surgical instruments and materials, taking radiographs, patient education and giving post-operative instructions, cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas after procedures. The importance of this position is that the incumbent interacts with faculty, residents, students, and patients on both skillful and professional levels providing a necessary service of dental assistance.

Compensation:

There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of

• $15.05 per hour for Dental Assistant 2 title
• $14.06 for Dental Assistant 1 title

Additional compensation

• $1.00 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.
• $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification.
• $1.50 for EDDA certification (Expanded Dental Duty Dental Assistant).

• This is a Civil Service Position.
• Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.
