Qualifications

  • Completion of a one- or two-year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college.
  • Maintain unrestricted certification as a Dental Assistant and CPR certification as required by the facility.
  • High school diploma or GED is required or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate dental services and assist the Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation, and the dental department function.
  • Assist Dentist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction or suction.
  • Ensure dental equipment is maintained and the dental suite is clean and stocked.
  • Sterilize and disinfect equipment and tools.
  • Assist in triage, schedule appointments, manage patient records, and perform administrative tasks.
  • Explain dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients.
  • Take and develop x-rays, assist with dental laboratory work.

Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Dental Assistant to join our team of medical professionals in the Manatee County Jail in Palmetto, Florida.

As a Correctional Dental Assistant, you will work alongside correctional officers and other dental professionals to provide dental care to the incarcerated individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have a variety of duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical and dental needs.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinating dental services and assisting Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation and supporting the function of the dental department
  • Assisting Dentist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction or suction
  • Ensuring all dental equipment properly maintained and in good working order and the dental suite is clean and well-stocked
  • Sterilizing and disinfecting equipment and tools
  • Assisting in triage, dental sick call requests, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and performing other administrative tasks
  • Explaining dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients
  • Taking and developing x‑rays, assisting with dental laboratory function

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Completion of a one or two‑year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college
  • Maintenance of proper training and unrestricted certification as a Dental Assistant
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Ability to obtain CPR certification (American Heart Association required)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
