Job summary

David Raines Community Health Centers is seeking a qualified Dental Assistant to join our team in Shreveport, LA. The Dental Assistant assists the dentist in all dental procedures and adheres to OSHA guidelines to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities include preparing for procedures, sterilizing operatories, taking and developing X-rays, maintaining inventories, and coordinating with Medicaid/insurance pre-authorizations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• X-ray certification per State Dental Board of Louisiana is required.
• Certificate of graduation from a dental assistant training program or minimum 1 year experience as a full-time dental assistant is required.
• Experience with electronic dental records is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists the dentist in all dental procedures.
• Completes Time Out/Intake for all patients (BP, pulse, pain scale, chief complaint).
• Breaks down and sets up operations.
• Sterilizes operatories and equipment between patients.
• Takes, develops, and mounts X-rays.
• Keeps operatories stocked with supplies and orders as needed.
• Stores and tracks all dental laboratory cases.
• Fills out Medicaid/insurance pre-authorizations.
• Monitors upkeep of dental equipment weekly.
• Tests autoclaves weekly.
• Assists in laboratory duties as needed.
• Ensures proper draping and patient readiness for procedures.
• Wears PPE during procedures (gloves, gown, mask).
• Reports equipment repairs to supervisor.
• Prepare for and respond to medical emergencies in the dental office.
• May rotate to other DRCHC sites (Bossier, Gilliam, Haynesville, Minden, or Shreveport).

Work Experience Requirements

• Assists the dentist in all dental procedures.
• Completes Time Out/Intake (blood pressure, pulse, pain scale, chief complaint) on all patients.
• Breaks down and sets up operations.
• Properly sterilizes operatories and equipment between patients.
• Takes X-rays; develops X-rays; mounts X-rays.
• Keeps the operatories well stocked with supplies. Orders supplies as necessary.
• Stores and keeps track of all dental laboratory cases.
• Fills out and tracks Medicaid/insurance pre-authorizations.
• Monitors the upkeep of dental equipment on a weekly basis.
• Tests the autoclaves on a weekly basis.
• Assists in laboratory duties.
• Makes sure patient is properly draped and ready for procedure.
• Wear proper protective equipment during procedures, include gloves, gown and mask.
• Reports any equipment repair that is needed to the supervisor.
• Prepares for and acts appropriately to medical emergencies in the dental office.
• Must be available to rotate on occasion, as may be necessary, to other DRCHC sites (Bossier, Gilliam, Haynesville, Minden, or Shreveport).

Education/Experience Qualifications
