Qualifications
Under the supervision of the Dentist, the Dental Assistant will provide dental treatment to patients of Marin City Health & Wellness Center (MCHWC). The Dental Assistant must communicate well, establish rapport with patients and their families, and be sensitive to the needs of the Marin City community and Southern Marin residents. The Dental Assistant should be familiar with the goals and objectives of MCHWC and its dental programs, expressing enthusiasm and commitment to its success. Willingness to learn new procedures and terminology in line with current dental techniques and technology is essential, along with proficiency in all phases of assistance as outlined below.
- Proficient in all phases of 4-handed dental assisting for prosthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, preventative, restorative, and diagnostic procedures.
- Familiar with dental terminology, medications, and instruments used during procedures.
- Perform expanded duties permitted by law.
- Clean and sterilize instruments after treatment.
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after treatment.
- Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health, including tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain dental supply inventory.
- Keep operatory and laboratory clean and organized.
- Use motivational interviewing and caries risk assessment tools.
- Present treatment plans to patients.
- Assist with referrals and follow-up appointments.
- Perform duties professionally, maintaining appearance and attitude.
- Maintain current licensure through continuing education.
- Take digital radiographs proficiently.
- Coordinate lab cases, ensure timely pickup/delivery, and track cases.
- Record findings and maintain patient records in OpenDental EHR.
- Perform laboratory duties as instructed.
- Work collaboratively with staff and management.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy policies.
- Provide administrative support to the Dentist.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Punctuality and reliable attendance are required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting School preferred or minimum of two years recent experience as RDA.
- Valid CA RDA license and certification.
- X-ray license.
- Current CPR and CE courses.
- Basic CPR (BCLS) certification.
- Positive attitude, team player, able to follow directions.
- Understand and promote the mission and values of the health center.
- Sensitivity to multicultural populations.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Experience in dental or FQHC setting preferred.
Language Skills
- Excellent organization, writing, and verbal skills.
- English proficiency required; Spanish preferred.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret instructions in various formats.
Physical Demands
- Stand, walk, or sit as needed.
- Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, climbing stairs, pushing, or pulling.
- Perform activities requiring finger dexterity.
- Lift over 20 pounds occasionally.
- Visual and hearing requirements for communication and reading.
Travel Requirements
May need to travel to other MCHWC locations.
