Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Assist Dentists in providing direct patient care and routine/emergency treatment.
  • Maintain dental records and timely billing information.
  • Serve as back-up clerical support for health center teams and patients.
  • Assist with charting, radiographs, and infection control in the clinic.
  • Prepare operatories, provide four-handed assistance, and ensure patient comfort.
  • Attend dental team meetings and support quality improvement initiatives.

About The Dental Assistant Position

The Dental Assistant assists the Dentists in providing direct patient care, including both routine and emergency treatment, and maintains proper dental records and timely completion of billing information. The Dental Assistant also serves as a back‑up general clerical support to primary care teams and general customer service for health center patients and visitors.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Assists Dentist in providing quality dental care in all venues through which agency personnel provide dental care.
  • Assist with policy/procedure development in the dental department.
  • Implement and adhere to the policies of the organization, as well as those of funding sources and third-party payers.
  • Attend all regular dental team meetings.
  • Implementation of the dental department’s Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection control measures in the dental clinic.
  • Seat and dismiss patients and set up operatories for procedures.
  • Provide four handed assisting to the dentist during procedures.
  • Assist with charting all patients, including date, service rendered, instruction given, treatment planning, medical history updates, etc.
  • Perform clinical procedures as delegated by dentist, including screenings, preparation of lab cases, and exposing, developing, and mounting radiographs.
  • Provide patient instruction and demonstrate, when necessary, as delegated by the dentist.
  • Maintain current CPR licensure and certification to take radiographs in Pennsylvania.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Medical Director or Dental Program Manager.
Requirements
Qualifications, Education, and Knowledge
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited dental assisting program or equivalent dental assisting experience required.
  • X-ray Certification required.
  • Medical or dental office experience or background required.
  • Minimum of one‑year dental assisting experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of dental instruments, general dentistry procedures, and infection control programs strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual/bicultural preferred.
  • Attendance required at assigned CHDC site(s).

Our doors opened in October 2008 with 39 medical and dental patients seen that first week and we’ve grown to see thousands of medical and dental patients each year. As a non‑profit community health center, we have been organized to become the patient’s medical home for preventive care and to promote overall well‑being, thus reducing the number of emergency room visits.
