Job Description
Job Purpose:

The Dental Assistant works in a team-based, patient-centered dental clinic serving insured and uninsured clients, with a focus on those facing barriers to access due to income, language, cultural, or social factors. The role provides chairside assistance and performs clinical duties alongside the Dentist, Dental Hygienist, and Dental Director.

Duties:
  • Adhere to the mission and values of Waterfall Community Health Center, removing barriers to care.
  • Demonstrate core values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Compassion, Partnership, and Collaborative Communication.
  • Prepare dental instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance.
  • Prepare dental materials such as amalgam and composite.
  • Follow sterilization and infection control protocols.
  • Perform dental charting using electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Manage inventory control.
  • Assist Dental Hygienist and front office staff as needed.
  • Perform procedures like sealants, fluoride treatments, coronal polish, digital x-rays, and oral hygiene instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • EFDA Certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Preferred: 1 year of chairside dental assisting experience.
  • Oregon Certificate of Radiologic Proficiency.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with EMR preferred.
  • Complete Non-violent Crisis Intervention training within 6 months of hire and recertify before expiration.
  • BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
Immunizations:
  • TB test upon hire.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting at a desk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
