Job summary

TCC Family Health in Long Beach, CA is seeking a dedicated Dental Assistant to support patient care across dental and medical services. You will maintain patient records in EMR, assist during procedures, and ensure infection control standards are met. Strong communication with patients and staff is essential for quality care.

Certification in Dental Assistant and X-ray, plus CPR training, are REQUIRED. Bilingual abilities (Spanish/Khmer) are highly valued in this diverse community.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; one year of dental office experience preferred.
  • Dental Assistant Certification is REQUIRED; X-ray certification is REQUIRED.
  • Current CPR training is required.
  • Experience with EMR systems (EPIC, Dentrix & Dexis) is preferred.
  • Spanish or Khmer language skills are a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use EMR to keep accurate records of patient dental and medical history.
  • Follow infection control protocols by sterilizing instruments and equipment.
  • Review patient history, medications, and identifiers.
  • Prepare patients for treatment and ensure comfort during procedures.
  • Take X-rays and prepare materials for impressions and restorations.
  • Communicate treatment plans with patient and dental team.
  • Maintain professionalism and patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Refer patients to specialists as needed.
  • Educate patients on pre- and post-operative care.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments; manage daily supply inventory.

Job description

TCC Family Health, founded in 1939, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), provides comprehensive, high quality health care and wellness services to those of all ages in the under resourced and underserved need in the greater Long Beach community. TCC is now a vibrant network of 14 clinic sites, including three school-based health centers, and one mobile medical clinic. Last year TCC served almost 40,000 patients through 175,000 medical, behavioral health, dental, optometry and wellness visits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Use EMR to keep accurate records of patient’s current dental and medical history.
  • Follows infection control protocol by preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
  • Reviews patient's medical history, medications and proper patient identifiers
  • Prepares patients for treatment and ensures patient is as comfortable as possible during dental procedures.
  • Takes x-rays as needed and prepares materials for impressions and restorations.
  • Communicates with both patient and dental provider of treatment plan during procedure.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Refers patient as needed (orthodontist, periodontist, endodontist and oral surgeon).
  • Informs patients on pre- and post-operative procedures and provides oral health education.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments, receive patients, keep treatment records, and monitor daily supplies for restocking.
Educational & Qualifications Requirements:
  • Completion of high school or equivalent and 1 year of experience in a dental office setting preferred.
  • Dental Assistant Certification REQUIRED
  • X-ray certification REQUIRED
  • Current CPR training
  • Experience with EMR’s (EPIC, Dentrix & Dexis)
  • Dental and medical terminology knowledge preferred
  • Ability to prioritize while paying attention to detail.
  • Collaborates with a wide variety of staff members to ensure daily patient care productivity goals are met.
  • De-escalates challenging situations that may arise with patients and/or staff.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/Khmer (strongly preferred)

Monday - Friday 8:30AM - 5:00PM

8 hour shift
