Matrix Providers is hiring a Dental Assistant to join our team in Honolulu, HI, supporting Military Service Members and families. This full-time, hourly position offers bi-weekly pay with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life coverage.

The HCW will perform four-handed dentistry, maintain records, assist with anesthesia and sutures, and uphold infection control standards.

Qualifications

• Certificate/associate degree in dental assisting with CODA accreditation.
• Radiography certification required per 42 CFR Part 75.
• BLS from AHA or Red Cross.
• One of several approved education paths with 12 months experience in last 3–5 years.
• Membership in good standing with ADA-AAA with CE and 12 months experience.
• Recent graduation from a CODA- or state-accredited program within the last 12 months.
• Training must include radiation physics, biology, safety, radiographic techniques, and digital processing.

Responsibilities

• Perform full range of dental assisting procedures in support of examinations and treatment.
• Maintain patient records to Joint Commission/DTF/MTF standards.
• Assist in anesthesia administration and suturing.
• Ensure operatory cleanliness and infection control; manage waste per protocols.
• Support in central sterile functions and other assigned duties as directed.
• Attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings when required.

Education

Certificate or associate degree in dental assisting/tech CODA accredited

Radiography certification

Basic Life Support (BLS)

12 months experience within 36 months (CODA/ADA pathways)

American Association of Dental Assistants membership

• Employment Status: Full Time
• Compensation: This is an hourly position, paid bi-weekly. $21.00-$23.25/hour plus H&W $5.09
• Schedule: Monday thru Friday 06:45 am - 3:15 pm

Requirements:

The Dental Assistant must have and meet the following:

• Degree: Certificate or associates degree.
  • Certification: Certified in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 75.
    • All training must have included a course in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality; radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; film mounting; and digital radiographic processing techniques.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Education: Successful completion of one of the following:
  • Certificate or associate degree as a dental assistant/technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months
  • Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • 36 months experience within the preceding 60 months as a dental assistant in a private practice or a military clinic.
  • Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required continuing education and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Graduation from a state accredited program for dental assistants or dental technology within the preceding 12 months.
  • All training must have included a course in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality; radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; film mounting; and digital radiographic processing techniques.
• Certification: Certified in Radiography
  • Facility Information: Makalapa Clinic - located on Naval Base Pearl Harbor. Parking is free. On occasion the employee may be floated to Camp Smith which is located approx 10 min from Makalapa.
  • Patient Population: Makalapa services active duty members as well as their dependents
  • Shifts will be 8.5 - 9 hours with a 30 or 60 min unpaid meal break to reflect 8 hours worked. There is no overtime with this position.

Job Summary:

• Responsible for performing a full range of dental assisting procedures in support of Dental Officer examinations and delivery of treatment under the "four handed dentistry" format within the personnel and equipment capabilities and limitations of the Dental Treatment Facility
• The HCW shall aid in the provision of mandated dental surveillance and preventive services and assist in ensuring the quality and timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided.
• The HCW shall also refer patients who present with a complaint to staff dentists for evaluation and continuation of care and attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings on behalf of the dental officers.
• The HCW shall: Maintain patient records in accordance with Joint Commission and DTF/MTF requirements.
  • Assist during administration of anesthesia.
  • Assist in placement and removal of sutures.
• Dispose of contaminated waste in accordance with the standard procedures of the DTF/MTF.
• Maintain operatory to meet the clinic's cleanliness and infection control standards. These clinical duties do not include mopping, sweeping or taking trash to an industrial dumpster.
• This is a personal services contract for clinical services; however, as time permits, the HCW may be assigned other duties consistent with the normal duties of a dental assistant as directed by the Commanding Officer. These duties include, but are not limited to, working at the appointments desk, performing Central Sterile Supply functions, and
  participating in command quality improvement and assurance meetings, etc.
• As a member of a professional team, the HCW shall contribute in a positive manner to team building and morale.
• Under government supervision and the clinical direction of a dentist, all dental assistants may be allowed to participate in Expanded Functions training program and certification in accordance with all current and relevant BUMED and DHA instructions and local directives at the Commanding Officer's discretion.
