Job description

Aptive Resources is hiring a Dental Assistant to join our team of talented professionals who provide healthcare services to Military Service Members and their families at Naval Health Clinic Hawaii (NHCH) Camp Smith.

Employment Status: Full Time
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 0630-1600. Contract HCWs will not be required to work on federally recognized holidays.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform a full range of dental assisting procedures in support of Dental Officer examinations and delivery of treatment under the "four-handed dentistry" format.
  • Aid in the provision of mandated dental surveillance and preventive services and assist in ensuring the quality and timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided.
  • Refer patients who present with a complaint to staff dentists for evaluation and continuation of care and attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings on behalf of the dental officers.
  • Assist during administration of anesthesia and in placement and removal of sutures.
  • Dispose of contaminated waste in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Maintain operatory to meet clinic cleanliness and infection control standards.
  • Perform additional duties consistent with the normal duties of a dental assistant as directed by the Commanding Officer, including appointment desk tasks, central sterile supply functions, and participation in command quality improvement and assurance meetings.
  • Contribute positively to team building and morale.
  • Under government supervision and the clinical direction of a dentist, may participate in expanded functions training program and certification per BUMED and DHA instructions if authorized.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Certificate or associate degree in dental assisting/technology from a CODA-accredited program, or equivalent, with 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school with 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Graduation from a state-accredited program within the preceding 12 months.
  • Training must include courses in radiation physics, radiation biology, radiation health, safety, and protection, X-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques, darkroom and processing techniques, film mounting, and digital radiographic processing techniques.
  • 36 months of experience as a dental assistant in a private practice or military clinic within the preceding 60 months.
  • Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course with 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants, required continuing education and 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Certified in radiography per 42 CFR Part 75 requirements.
Physical Qualifications
  • Capable of four-handed sit-down dentistry tasks, including regular back bending, standing, walking.
