Job description

The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to the Staff Dentist in accordance with policies and standard operating procedures set by the Corporation. The Dental Assistant performs duties under the direct supervision of the Staff Dentist to ensure maximum oral health.

DUTIES

Basic dental assistant duties include:

• Seating patients according to established protocols.
• Preparing dental operatories following protocols.
• Cleaning and maintaining operatories and support areas per infection control protocols.
• Sterilizing instruments and equipment.
• Assisting in chair-side procedures.
• Charting restorations, missing teeth, and appliances.
• Applying topical drugs as prescribed.
• Placing and removing matrix.
• Checking and recording vital signs.

Expanded duties include:

• Polishing restorations and supra-gingival structures.
• Applying pit and fissure sealants.
• Monitoring nitrous oxide anesthesia (upon certification).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must meet the following:

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program or
• Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Certification.
• Radiology Certification.
• General Chair-side Assisting Certification.
• Infection Control Certification.
• CPR/BLS Certification.
• Nitrous Oxide Certification preferred.

Experience

• At least two years preferred, but not required.
