FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Hourly


EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time


PURPOSE OF POSITION: The position primarily supports orthodontic residents and clinical faculty with basic orthodontic dental assisting, equipment sterilization, and care coordination with residents and front-end needs (registration/billing) for orthodontic patients. We seek a highly motivated dental assistant. Prior experience is preferred but training will be provided. This role offers opportunities to expand your skills, including orthodontic training if needed. Ideal candidates are dependable, eager to learn, and passionate about patient care.


RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  1. Provide service-excellence skills daily to ensure smooth operations with patients, the public, residents, faculty, managers, and co-workers.
  2. Mix dental compounds/cements, acid etch materials, prepare arch wires, impression materials/trays, and other orthodontic treatment items.
  3. Prepare orthodontic brackets for bonding, assist in patient bonding appointments or debonding, and ensure proper documentation for insurance purposes.
  4. Pour and finish cast study models or prepare electronic models.
  5. Expose and develop/process dental radiographs (intra-oral, panorex, cephalometric).
  6. Assist in placing/removing orthodontic appliances and take full records, including radiographs, 3-D scans, and photographs.
  7. Prepare patient treatment setups, instruments, supplies, and bonding setups for daily schedules or special cases.
  8. Prepare dental instruments and small items for sterilization, ensuring proper packaging.
  9. Maintain order of instruments and supplies, and sterilize work units following OSHA and infection control policies, documenting all procedures.
  10. Perform microbial testing of sterilization equipment, maintaining logs and tracking systems.
  11. Participate in performance improvement activities and uphold ethical policies.
  12. Oversee maintenance and repair of clinic equipment, including x-ray hardware/software, chairs, compressors, and more; obtain training for troubleshooting and repairs.
  13. Ensure timely maintenance of instruments and equipment, manage resources efficiently, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  14. Assist the program director with research projects as needed.
  15. Incorporate patient records into orthodontic software from internal and external sources.
  16. Prepare reports, presentations, and inventory tracking using Google Docs, Microsoft Office, etc.
  17. Cover front desk registration/reception as needed.
  18. Coordinate payments with patients and billing personnel to ensure accurate and current accounts, supporting the financial health of the program.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Pennsylvania Dental Radiograph Certification
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team
  • Ability to meet attendance and scheduling requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High motivation and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
