Dental Assistant - Advanced

Location and Schedule

Location: Chapel Hill, NC (North Carolina, US). Full‑Time Permanent, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Sign‑On Bonus

Eligible for a SIGN ON BONUS of $2,000 paid in two installments:

  • $1,000 within 30 days of hire date
  • $1,000 one year after hire date

Eligibility conditions:

  • Must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time‑limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including without limitation the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system in a position subject to the State Human Resources Act.
  • Newly hired permanent full‑time or permanent part‑time (more than 20 hours per week) employees are eligible for the bonus.
  • Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire; all recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form.

Responsibilities
  • Provide dental and surgical assisting duties to all Division of Comprehensive Oral Health clinics, including Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Operative, General Dentistry, and the Dental Faculty Practice.
  • Prepare the clinic and set up trays using sterile techniques.
  • Assist with a variety of restorative and surgical procedures, obtain informed consent, and document pre‑ and post‑operative vitals.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, review post‑operative instructions, and assist patients and families as needed.
  • Restock inventory in rooms in a prescribed manner.
  • Assist clinical faculty in training dental, dental auxiliary, and graduate specialty students in clinical practice.
  • Monitor and implement clinic policies and procedures, including restorative and surgical tray preparation, instrument sterilization, and asepsis maintenance.
  • Expose and process radiographs, seat and interact with patients, collect and record patient data, and take intraoral photographs.
  • Provide chairside assistance to students, graduate residents, and faculty.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and completion of an accredited dental assisting program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Experience

Experience working in a team environment and providing support with various dental procedures.

Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.

Special Requirements

Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, exposure to hazardous materials, occasional overtime.
