Job summary

The Ohio State University Eastland Prosperity Center in Columbus seeks a Dental Assistant to support dentists and hygienists in clinical care across operative, preventive, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic and oral surgery procedures.

Responsibilities include preparing, sterilizing and setting up equipment, maintaining instrument inventory, operating radiographic imaging with safety protocols, assisting with emergencies, and keeping dental records with basic computer skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Dental X-Ray Machine Operator permit from the Ohio State Dental Board.
• 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide chair side assistance to dentists and dental hygienists across operative, preventive, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic and oral surgery procedures.
• Prepare, sterilize, organize and set up dental equipment; ensure instruments are cleaned, dated and processed per safety guidelines.
• Monitor and maintain dental equipment (compressors, evacuator, radiographic equipment, sterilizers, light curing units) per manufacturer guidelines.
• Take diagnostic radiographic images as ordered and assist with radiation safety procedures.
• Order and maintain inventories of dental clinic supplies, equipment and instruments; respond to emergencies; maintain CPR.
• Maintain dental records and dental laboratory slips per established procedures; basic computer skills used for records.

Dental Assistant## Department:Nursing | College AdministrationThe Dental Assistant at The Ohio State University Total Health Care Center provides chair side assistance to dentists and dental hygienists in the provision of clinical dental care, including operative, preventative, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic and/or oral surgery procedures. Prepares, sterilizes, organizes and sets up dental equipment, ensures that all dental instruments are cleaned, dated, and processed according to established safety guidelines and standards. Monitors and maintains dental equipment, such as compressors, evacuator, radiographic equipment, sterilizers, and light curing units, in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines. Takes diagnostic quality radiographic images in accordance with dentists’ orders, assists in the monitoring and maintenance of radiation safety procedures and protocols. Orders and maintains inventories of dental clinic supplies, equipment, and instruments. Must be able to respond to emergency situations, maintains current CPR. Maintains dental laboratory slips and creates and maintains dental records in accordance with the established protocol and procedures.
