Position Description Summary: The dental assistant reporting to the Clinic Practice Manager is an integral member of the Pre Doctoral Group Practice team, providing support to the students for quality dental care to patients at the School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM). The dental assistant demonstrates strong clinical skills by practicing four-handed dentistry, preparing operatory for required treatments, ensuring assigned operatories are cleaned and disinfected between each patient, and setting up for the next patient. They also prepare instrument cassettes for sterilization according to established protocols, organize and coordinate inventory to avoid shortages, restock cabinets when needed, and provide coverage during evening and Saturday clinic hours. The role requires providing compassion, understanding, and empathy towards patients, fostering good interpersonal skills, promoting teamwork among staff and faculty, and ensuring each phase of patient treatment is a positive experience from initial appointment through completion.

Work Experience:

• Prior experience as a Dental Assistant in a dental practice setting or experience working in a dental care environment is required.
• Ability to review and discuss treatment plans with patients and a strong understanding of dental terminology and procedures.
• Model proper patient management and communication with students.
• Proactive with critical thinking skills to problem-solve effectively.
• Organized with attention to detail; capable of multi-tasking and setting priorities.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work well within a team.
• Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment supporting multiple students and eight operatories simultaneously.
• Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Bilingual skills are highly preferred but not required.

Position Requirements:

• Current Massachusetts Dental Assistant License.
• Certified Dental Assistant, Expanded Functions (EFDA), or Formally Trained (FTDA).
• CPR and Radiology certifications.
• Maintain dental assisting standing by attending appropriate CE courses.
• Provide proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Hepatitis B, Varicella-zoster, Tdap, and recent Tuberculosis (TB) skin test results, including documentation or lab reports indicating immunity or disease history.

• Monday - 10:30 am to 7:00 pm
• Tuesday to Friday - 9:00 am to 5:30 pm
