Job summary

Columbia Basin Oral Surgery seeks a Dental Anesthesia Assistant (DAA) to join our surgical team in Washington. Under supervision of a licensed surgeon or anesthesiologist, you will assist with IV sedation and general anesthesia, prepare IV medications, and monitor patients throughout procedures.

The role requires completion of a Washington DDA certification and hands-on IV access training, including at least 10 successful IV starts.

Qualifications

  • Active Washington DDA certification, commission-approved training path (DAANCE via AAOMS or CALAOMS options) with certificate/transcript.
  • Successful completion of a commission-approved DAA training program.
  • Hands-on IV access training with at least 10 successful IV starts on human or simulator.
  • BLS certification (or completed within 1 month of hire).
  • Strong attention to detail and patient safety; excellent teamwork and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with administering IV sedation and general anesthesia under supervision.
  • Prepare IV medications; initiate and maintain IV lines during procedures.
  • Monitor patients throughout sedation procedures and respond to emergencies as needed.

Position Highlights:

Join our surgical team as a Dental Anesthesia Assistant (DAA) and play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality care in a fast-paced oral surgery environment. Under the direct supervision of a licensed oral and maxillofacial surgeon or dental anesthesiologist, you will assist with administering IV sedation and general anesthesia. Your responsibilities will include preparing IV medications, initiating and maintaining IV lines, monitoring patients throughout sedation procedures, and responding to emergencies when needed.

To qualify for this role in Washington State, applicants must complete a commission-approved DAA training program and demonstrate hands-on IV access training, including a minimum of 10 successful IV starts on a human or simulator. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient safety are essential to success in this role.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active Washington State Dental Anesthesia Assistant (DAA) certification, which includes:
    • Successful completion of a commission-approved training program, such as:
      • DAANCE (Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination) through AAOMS
      • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Assistants course via CALAOMS
      • Resuscitation Group - Vancouver, WA (Approved June 1, 2018)
      • Or other substantially equivalent education and training approved by the commission
    • Documentation required: certificate of completion or transcript
  • Completion of approved intravenous access or phlebotomy training, which includes:
    • Eight hours of didactic instruction covering:
      • Intravenous access, anatomy, technique, risks, and complications
    • Hands-on training with at least 10 successful IV starts on a human or manikin
    • Documentation required: certificate, letter, or transcript that includes course description
  • BLS certification (or completed within 1 month of hire)
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong patient safety awareness
  • Solid teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACLS and/or PALS certification
  • Prior experience assisting in oral and maxillofacial surgical settings
