Position Overview

This position assists the dentist in providing dental care to prisoners at the assigned correctional facility. Duties may be performed at other facilities as needed. The role involves supporting the overall operations of the dental clinic.

Selective Position Requirement (SPR)

Possession of a radiography certification, which involves completing a dental radiography course approved by the Michigan Board of Dentistry, pursuant to Administrative Rule R338.11307.

Position Details

This is a test-designated position (DART) with direct contact with prisoners for more than 50% of work time and is located entirely within the secure perimeter of a correctional facility.

Education and Experience

• Educational Level: Typically acquired through high school completion.
• Experience Levels:
  • Dental Aide 6: No specific experience required.
  • Dental Aide 7: One year of experience equivalent to Dental Aide 6.
  • Dental Aide E8: Two years of experience, including one year as Dental Aide 7, or completion of a one-year dental assistance program as a substitute.

Licenses and Certifications

Some positions require a radiography certification involving completion of an approved dental radiography course. The department will not hire individuals with felony convictions or pending charges, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996.
