MICA Steelworks is a private company that is a fabricator of quality steel Power Delivery Structures for the electric utility industry.

Role Summary

The Demand Planning Coordinator supports the Project Demand Planning (PDP) team by maintaining accurate production data, coordinating material demand tracking, and facilitating communication across departments. This role operates at the foundational level of the PDP function - building the scheduling accuracy, ERP discipline, and cross-functional awareness that advanced planning work depends on. The Coordinator works under direct supervision of the Sr. Demand Planning Analyst and gains structured exposure to demand planning methodology, machine queue awareness, and multi-plant operations across all four fabrication facilities.

PRODUCTION DATA ENTRY & ERP MAINTENANCE
  • Enter and maintain accurate job, routing, and workorder data within Global Shop Solutions (GSS) as directed by the planning team
  • Update production records to reflect schedule changes, job status updates, and departmental inputs in a timely manner
  • Perform routine ERP audits on assigned data fields to identify inconsistencies, missing entries, or outdated records
  • Support data hygiene practices that ensure planninglevel decisions are built on clean, current information
  • Flag discrepancies or data gaps to the supervising analyst for review and resolution
MATERIAL DEMAND TRACKING & KIT COORDINATION SUPPORT
  • Track open material demands against active jobs, identifying shortfalls or mismatches between kits and scheduled work
  • Assist in monitoring detail part kit status and readiness relative to production floor scheduling needs
  • Coordinate with inventory and procurement teams to communicate kit gaps and support timely resolution
  • Maintain records of material demand activity and communicate status changes to the planning team
  • Support the preparation of demand reports and kit tracking logs under analyst guidance
SCHEDULE COORDINATION & COMMUNICATION SUPPORT
  • Support the distribution of scheduling information to department leads, production floor teams, and project coordinators/managers
  • Assist in preparing and organizing daily, weekly, and periodic schedule reports for internal stakeholders
  • Communicate schedule changes and priority shifts to relevant departments in coordination with the planning team
  • Attend scheduling meetings as directed; document action items and follow up on open coordination tasks
  • Maintain a working knowledge of machine queue planning concepts and how shop floor capacity affects scheduling outputs
REPORTING & DATA INTEGRITY
  • Generate routine operational reports from GSS and internal tracking systems as assigned
  • Compile and organize data for use in planning analysis, highlighting trends or anomalies as observed
  • Maintain report templates and data logs, ensuring consistency in format, frequency, and source accuracy
  • Support report distribution to internal stakeholders — project management, production leads, department heads — in accordance with established cadence
  • Flag data quality issues promptly and contribute to continuous improvement of reporting accuracy
CROSS-DEPARTMENTAL COORDINATION

The Coordinator interfaces with multiple departments to gather information, share scheduling updates, and support operational alignment across the organization.

  • Operations & Production Floor Teams — relay schedule updates, communicate priority changes, and coordinate around production floor readiness
  • Procurement & Inventory — support material demand communication and assist with tracking raw material stock availability against active job demands
  • PDM (Product Data Management) — coordinate on BOM and product structure data as it relates to active jobs and kit readiness
  • Project Coordinators & Project Managers — maintain communication on job status, schedule impacts, and material readiness relevant to project timelines
  • Sr. Demand Planning Analyst & PDP Team — receive direction, elevate unresolved issues, and support planning initiatives as assigned
PROCESS LEARNING & ROLE DEVELOPMENT

This role is designed to develop foundational competency in demand planning principles and ERP-driven operations. Coordinators are expected to grow actively within the PDP framework.

  • Develop working proficiency in GSS — including navigation, job tracking, data entry, and reporting functions — within the first 90 days
  • Participate in structured learning activities related to production scheduling, machine queue planning, and material demand management
  • Build familiarity with multiplant operations across all four facilities (HC, EU, KA, RH) and the operational distinctions between them
  • Accept increasing levels of responsibility as competency is demonstrated — progressing toward independent task ownership within defined scope
  • Engage with process documentation, contribute to SOPs under development, and identify improvement opportunities for supervisor review
  • Demonstrate readiness for advancement into the Demand Planning Analyst role through consistent accuracy, communication, and professional growth
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or coursework in business, operations, or a related field preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite — particularly Excel (data entry, basic formulas, sorting/filtering)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate across departments effectively
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and maintain organization under shifting priorities
Preferred:
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial operations environment
  • Exposure to ERP or scheduling software (experience with GSS is a plus)
  • Understanding of production scheduling, material planning, or supply chain coordination concepts
  • Experience supporting a planning, operations, or project coordination function
