Job summary

The Michaels Companies in Irving, TX seeks a Demand Planner to develop and execute demand forecasts that support sales, margins, and inventory goals. You will build forecast models, apply business intelligence, and collaborate with Category Management, Inventory, Pricing, and Store Operations to optimize product availability.

Responsibilities include owning forecasts using statistical models, analyzing trends, presenting to leadership, and maintaining planning processes.

Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to present to groups.
  • Experience with demand forecasting or financial planning.
  • Knowledge of forecasting tools and business intelligence is a plus.
  • Experience with Blue Yonder (JDA) Demand or similar forecasting applications is preferred.

Job description

Support Center - Irving Demand Planners are responsible for developing and executing demand forecasts to enable the company to achieve sales, gross margin, and inventory objectives. As a Demand Planner you will be the integration point into the sales forecasting and replenishment of product. You will create and maintain forecast models, incorporate business intelligence, and collaborate with other members of the organization including Category Management, Inventory Management, Pricing, Space Planning, Vendor Community and Store Operations.

Major Activities
  • Own multi-level unit demand forecasts using statistical models in the Blue Yonder (JDA) system
  • Analyze sales trends, seasonality, promotions, and space changes to build robust Peak Season forecasts
  • Create demand forecasts to ensure proper inventory levels to drive promotional events and inventory in-stocks after event
  • Present to cross-functional team and leaders at monthly forecast alignment and other miles-stone meetings
  • Evolve and maintain documentation for demand planning processes and systems
  • Collaborate with Product and Pricing teams to refine forecasts based on updated sales assumptions and strategic changes within the business
  • Participate in cross functional strategic initiatives
  • Share forecast insights with financial planning and fulfillment teams on key trend shifts
  • Actively seek insight on global business metrics such as sales and trends to refine forecast and drive sales
  • Partner with fulfillment team to address and resolve inventory issues
  • Participate in training of new hires

Minimum Education 4-year college degree or equivalent experience

Minimum Special Certifications or technical skills Microsoft Office Excel Access (familiarity)

Minimum Type of experience the job requires 3+ years of experience Demand Forecasting, Financial Planning or other analytical decision making

Other Collaborative, Curious, Organized Well-developed communication skills and comfortable presenting to groups Strong analytical eye to recognize patterns within data

Preferred Education Business, Retail, Supply Chain, or related field

Preferred Special Certifications or technical skills Blue Yonder (JDA) Demand or other forecasting applications

Preferred Type of experience the job requires Demand Forecasting Knowledge of planning process within retail industry
