Job summary

Builders FirstSource, America's largest supplier of building materials, is seeking a Dispatcher in Springfield, VA to assign motor vehicles and drivers for conveyance of building materials. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and 6 months to 1 year of related experience.

You should be able to read, interpret procedures, perform basic math, and communicate effectively to coordinate routes and driver assignments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 6 months to 1 year of related experience or training.
• Ability to read, interpret general procedures and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Compiles list of available vehicles.
• Assigns vehicles according to trip length, purpose, freight or passenger needs.
• Assigns orders to lift operators from inventory.
• Issues keys, record sheets, and credentials to drivers.
• Records departure times, destinations, cargo, and return times.
• Investigates overdue vehicles and routes.
• Directs drivers via two-way radio.
• Confers with customers to expedite or locate missing or damaged merchandise.
• Maintains mileage, fuel, repairs and other expenses records.
• Establishes service or delivery routes.
• Assigns helpers to drivers.
• Other duties as assigned.
