Job summary

Gulfeagle Supply is seeking a Delivery Material Handler in Joliet, Illinois, responsible for loading and delivering materials using forklifts and cranes. The candidate will ensure safety compliance and assist drivers in delivering building materials to job sites.

The ideal candidate must be able to lift heavy materials and work at heights, ensuring customer satisfaction while maintaining safety and efficiency. A knowledge of roofing materials is preferred, and proficiency in English or Spanish is required.

Delivery Material Handler

Gulfeagle Supply is looking for motivated individuals to join our team and develop their careers while supporting our drivers to ensure proper delivery of building materials to job sites using forklifts, cranes, conveyors, or manual methods.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Delivery

• Responsible for loading or assisting in loading and securing materials on trucks daily.
• Assists in verifying the quantities of materials for accuracy.
• Assists driver in locating the job site.
• Spot driver when backing up into a job site.
• Direct driver in placement of the conveyor.
• Unload or assist in unloading materials using forklift, crane, conveyor, or by hand (may require walking varying distances based on job site conditions).

Roof Top

• Responsible for climbing up to a 40-foot ladder to deliver materials on a roof pitch of up to 8/12.
• Ensure proper stacking and distribution during placement of materials on the roof.

Equipment

• Ensure truck is properly equipped for delivery, including filling cooler, strapping materials, loading ladder, and other as needed.

OSHA

• Responsible for OSHA compliance as it relates to oneself and the company.
• Assist in taking inventory quarterly or as needed.

Maintenance

• Maintain warehouse, yard, and trucks in a proper presentable manner; perform minor repairs as needed.

Safety

• Responsible for the safe handling of materials, wearing back brace, gloves, shoes, and other safety devices as appropriate.
• Assist in the safe operation of vehicles as it relates to the customer's property and Gulfeagle's property.

Customer Service

• Aiding customers with materials, reporting problems with deliveries, service issues, and other needs.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Reports directly to the Branch Manager and indirectly to the District Manager on branch and personnel issues. Reports indirectly to the Safety team regarding fleet, safety, and staff.

Education, Experience, and Licensing

• Read, write, and comprehend English or Spanish as required by the branch location.
• Knowledge of roofing material and/or construction and distribution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Ability to bend, reach, lift, and climb.
• Must lift up to 100 pounds of material continually for up to two hours at a time.
• Ability to work on multi-story buildings at various heights.
• Ability to work in hot, cold, rain, or shine.
• Requires a high degree of attention to ensure proper delivery while preventing damage to materials and equipment.
• Ability to maintain loyalty to Gulfeagle Supply.
• Ability to interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner; tact and diplomacy required in dealing with customer personnel at delivery points.
• Ability to handle all functions of the job in a safe manner.
• Must pass substance abuse screening; employees are subject to random substance abuse screening under company policy.
