Delivery Driver/Material Handler

SUMMARY: Staging, Loading, and Delivering Building Materials for WM. B Morse Lumber Co.


POSITION: Delivery Driver/Material Handler

DEPARTMENT: Morse Sash & Door Shipping Dept.

REPORTS TO: Dispatch Supervisor

COMPENSATION: $18-$20/HR

HOURS: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm with availability from 6:00am to 5:00pm for occasional overtime, and Saturdays

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Drive, deliver, and unload products to construction sites. Sites can have uneven terrain.
  • Job Site loading and unloading: Primarily physically hand unloading.
  • Deliver products locally in the Rochester Area as well as Buffalo, Syracuse, and Albany.
  • Occasional out of state deliveries which may include overnight stays.
  • Picking up customer returns from job sites.
  • Processing delivery manifests and packing slips.
  • Picking, pulling, and staging with RF Scanner.
  • Follow specific work instructions and best practices to safely and accurately complete daily work assignments.
  • Communicate problems, concerns, and ideas to Dispatcher. Identify process improvements.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Assist in maintaining the safety of the warehouse. Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety.
  • Participate in all assigned training programs and adhere to all guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Select, put away, consolidate, stack, and stage products and materials using a forklift, pallet jack, or physically lifting products.
  • Assist in various warehouse maintenance tasks, including sweeping floors, storing equipment, etc.
  • Perform other warehouse tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a forklift
  • Be able to drive a 24-26 foot box truck (8-10 hours a day)
  • Able to maintain medical certificate card for the NYDMV.
  • Able to maintain a clean driving abstract.
  • Physically demanding job that requires being able to stand and sit for duration of shift.
  • Physical lifting up to 125 pounds frequently.
  • Experience driving for a warehouse/distribution center preferred.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and necessary equipment (Tape Measure, Ratchet straps, saws, etc.).
  • Advanced math and reading skills to perform job tasks and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Employee must be reliable, punctual, and safety-minded, with a strong work ethic.
  • It is also important that you display a positive, helpful demeanor, and a commitment to providing the best in customer service.
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent preferred.
  • Clean New York State Driver’s License (Non-CDL Drivers).

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have held a valid driver's license for a minimum of 4 years.
  • Minimum of 2 years driving a 24-26 ft. box truck for deliveries.
  • 1-2 years of warehouse experience.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Unheated and uncooled warehouse with fluctuating temperatures.
