OBJECTIVE

The delivery driver is responsible for the timely and safe delivery of materials to customers and pickup of materials when needed from vendors and customers. The driver coordinates activities to achieve optimal productivity and works carefully to meet or exceed customer expectations. The driver should be competent and friendly to create a positive impression of Ashby Lumber. The driver is responsible for safely transporting company and customer goods. Their efforts in timely and safe delivery and pickup impact organizational success, customer satisfaction, and business growth.

Qualifications
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CUSTOMER INTERACTION
  • Provide excellent customer service on all deliveries
  • Maintain professionalism in interactions with customers, employees, and vendors; handle upset or angry customers appropriately
DELIVERY
  • Drive and sit for extended periods, up to 6 hours per day, in a large truck
  • Possess a current driver’s license, a clean Motor Vehicle Record, and approval by our insurance; employment may be contingent on approval
  • Ensure proper and accurate vehicle loading
  • Be familiar with the area and able to read maps/guides
  • Maintain a positive attitude despite traffic and driving conditions
  • Assist with loading/unloading products
  • Adapt to a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and short-notice activities
  • Communicate with Dispatch throughout the day and report issues at delivery sites
SAFETY
  • Have excellent driving skills and traffic law knowledge
  • Complete daily vehicle inspections
  • Pass DOT alcohol/drug screening randomly
  • Operate vehicles safely according to company policies
  • Report all accidents per policy
  • Attend monthly safety meetings
Skills/Qualifications
  • Valid CDL with Air Brake and HazMat endorsements (as required)
  • Powered Industrial Truck certification (training provided)
  • Good driving record
  • Current medical card (if required)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months to 1 year relevant experience or training
Physical Requirements
  • Drive up to 6-7 hours daily
  • Lift/carry up to 100 lbs. occasionally, 75 lbs. repetitively
  • Push/pull 50-250 lbs.
  • Perform various mobility motions (standing, walking, sitting, stooping, etc.)
