Delivery Driver
Overview
The position involves driving a 26-foot box truck on local trips with a load of furniture and accessories that must be unloaded at the customer's home, office, or other designated location. Backhauls mainly consist of customer returns and scheduled furniture pickups. This role is unique as drivers play a critical role in ensuring customer satisfaction and work as part of a two-person team, including a Home Delivery Driver and a Home Delivery Assistant.
Essential Functions
- Perform daily safety inspections.
- Operate the delivery box truck in compliance with all traffic laws.
- Follow directed routes to ensure on-time delivery.
- Guide the Delivery Assistant on proper handling and placement of furniture.
- Communicate effectively with customers to confirm delivery details and placement.
- Lift and move furniture and components carefully to avoid damage.
- Assemble furniture pieces as required using hand tools.
- Make final in-home setup of delivered products.
- Remove items from the delivery hub as directed.
- Store protective materials and straps properly.
- Remove packaging materials from homes and stow on the truck.
- Maintain a clean truck following established guidelines.
- Refuel the vehicle as needed.
- Unload furniture at the customer's designated location, including upstairs or downstairs.
- Assemble furniture components such as mirror brackets, bed slats, and support legs.
- Use effective communication skills and maintain a professional demeanor with customers.
- Perform minor repairs of furniture during unloading or in customers’ homes.
- Conduct inventory checks of tools, supplies, and repair kits.
- Prepare required documentation, including driver logs, delivery receipts, waivers, and comments.
- Mark rejected furniture with tape indicating problem areas.
- Submit delivery receipts with explanations of returns to the dispatcher.
- Project a positive company image.
Required Education / Experience / Abilities / Skills
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Commitment to Bassett’s “Vision and Values”.
- Ability to safely operate a 26-foot delivery truck.
- Navigate efficiently within delivery areas.
- Work in an organized, safety-conscious manner.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team with enthusiasm.
- Use a wireless tablet or other Bassett system device.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, management, and customers.
- Read, understand, and write in English.
- Lift and move products weighing up to 150 pounds without assistance.
- Lift and move heavier items with an approved device or partner.
- Be capable of walking between 25-300 feet during deliveries.
- Knowledge of iPad use is a plus.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, handle objects, reach, climb stairs, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see clearly.
