Job summary

Hy-Vee's Delicatessen department is looking for a friendly Delicatessen Clerk to handle food safely, assist customers, and operate registers. You will ensure clean work areas, stock and prep items, and contribute to a positive store image while delivering courteous service.

Ideal candidates have basic math skills, reliability, and the ability to stand for extended periods in a fast-paced environment. Prior deli or grocery experience is helpful but not required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
• Must be able to solve arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store
• Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.
• Answers the telephone promptly when called upon, and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call including taking customer orders.
• Takes customer orders at the delicatessen counter.
• Runs the department registers and receives payment, makes change, etc., where applicable.
