Job summary

Adams Hometown Markets is seeking a Deli Clerk to prepare and serve deli products and assist customers with orders while keeping the deli area clean and organized. The role emphasizes safe handling, accurate slicing, and friendly customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required. Prior 0-1 year retail/grocery experience is preferred, with the ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods in varied temperatures.

Qualifications

• Physical ability to lift up to 80-85 lbs and stand for long periods.
• Clear, effective communication with customers and teammates is required.
• Must be organized to fulfill customer orders promptly and accurately.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to ensure timely, high-quality service.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist customers at the deli counter with information on products, sales, and promotions.
• Rotate products to ensure older items are sold first (First In, First Out).
• Take customer orders for sliced meats and cheeses with accuracy.
• Slice, weigh, and package deli products per customer preferences and store policies.
• Inform customers about deli products, ingredients, and storage methods.
• Make recommendations based on customer preferences and needs.
• Address customer inquiries and escalate issues to leadership when needed.
• Maintain cleanliness in deli prep and service areas per health regulations.
• Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards and proper storage of deli items.
• Remove items not meeting quality standards and dispose per store policies.
• Communicate inventory levels, sales, and issues to management.
